My youth was a blur of swing sets, slides, and a multitude of multicolor nylon hair along with the distinct smell of hot rubber and vinyl against the summer heat.

I would sit in the bathroom with a food tray in front of my toilet and play My Little Pony tapping quartet until my feet would grow numb from the pressure of the toilet seat on my dangling legs. It wasn't until Mother Gingerbread would come along that the babies ponies I'd collected would sit down and listen.

Mother Gingerbread was sometimes Father Gingerbread. She was also sometimes Brother Gingerbread and Bottom of the Stack of Ponies Gingerbread. She was called a "Twinkle-eyed Pony." This meant she had blue plastic jewels for each of her eyes. I didn't know, then, her name or her species. All I knew was what I saw. That's what any kid knows, really. And that's all anyone knows, actually, it's just we pretend to know otherwise.

Gingerbread had a white body with blue gingerbread men circling on her tush. All ponies had tush symbols. Butt symbols if you want to travel in a harsher realm. Rump symbols if you're feeling randy. Just "symbols" if you're entering a circle of My Little Pony collectors.

I never really considered myself a collector, per se. I guess you could call me more of a gatherer. I don't look for "mint condition" ponies and I never have. What I do look for is ponies who haven't been fully defaced but still retain some of that played-with quality. It makes me feel the next in line to appreciate these toys.

I don't think I'm regressing into childhood. I think I'm enjoying, more, my adulthood by regaining the joy for play that I had back when I was a wee girl on her toilet seat with her tap dancing, androgynous ponies.

And so here is live my life in color. Technicolor, if you like. Technipony, if you like even more. I hope you enjoy whatever I end up saying here. Hell knows, I have no idea, myself.
